Ares 75In the late 1970s, the U.S.A. developed a 75 mm smoothbore gun that could fire at both ground-based and aerial targets. The gun could hit any tank of the period in the sides or rear. The military planned to mount it on various armored vehicles, including the Ares 75 medium tank, the prototype of which was built in 1979. The vehicle stood out with its good armor protection and special chassis with an additional inner track, which preserved mobility when the main track was damaged. Following trials, the vehicle did not enter mass production as more traditional designs were favored.
