Developed in February 1944 based on the T-44. The vehicle featured a different hull, turret, armor, and armament compared to its predecessor. The powerful 122 mm D-25-44T gun mounted on the tank resulted in a reduction of the ammo load as well as complications loading a quick-firing round. The separate loading system was deemed redundant due to a low rate of fire, and the T-44-122 was re-equipped with an 85 mm gun.
