PTZ-78After work on the Chinese BZ-79 tank ended, the military decided to use the existing designs to create a heavy tank destroyer. The project retained the key technical solutions: an opposed-piston engine and liquid jet boosters. A cheaper version with a modified V-shaped 12-cylinder diesel engine and solid-fuel packages from unguided rockets was also developed. By the early 1980s, a blueprint was ready, but the vehicle was never built since second-generation anti-tank missiles turned out to be a cheaper and more effective solution.
